pick a rescue

pick a rescue

Postby Sally » Sat Nov 14, 2009 6:37 am

I have asked several rescues or their apparant reps to pop their rescues on here untill they shift their butts s57 We need to decide on a dog rescue to support (with financial and physical offers.) The items (leads, collars, bowls, food, bedding towels etc) im handed in will still go to ireland
As we are a mixed breed forum i thought it only fair to rotate every 6mths.
Dont forget we will be haveing a show in june which will hopefully raise lots, to be split between St Michaels hospice and a dog rescue but i need that rescue to take part on the forum so people can see what they are donating to!!!!
Idea please....

Hopefully will be installing a paypal button or hand to me directly for the collection tubs.

Well,
(Some of you will know the background to this)

If we want to help the truly worst off, the ones with no hope in sight, I suggest Halkida Dog Shelter in Greece.
See THEIR WEBSITE HERE

As some of you are aware, I've been there so will post some photos later. I also waiting for Max, our new pack member, to be ready for immigration so that he can come home from there.
We have arranged another trip out there in January and more visits will be arranged further on.

The shelter, had it been in UK, might been approved to hold about 70-80 dogs but currently there are well over 200. All looked after by one "paid" employee and a handful of volunteers that literary drop in if they get time and doesn't have anything else to do.
The video I shoot of my first walk through the kennels could have been from a court case against someone accused of animal cruelty here in UK.

However, it is important to remember that for a lot of humans down there the conditions isn't much better, just a couple of miles away from the tourist resorts, or down the road from the shelter, there are villages that best can be described as shanty-towns. How can one expect animals to get a fair life when humans are suffering? That's why outside help is so important for these poor dogs (and cats).

After alot of consideration it has sadly been decided that donations from the dog academy can no longer go to the greek rescue for reasons which will not be discussed on here.
the new rescue will be 'the large breed rescue' who are based in maidstone kent and assist large to giant breeds needing help they also hold monthly walks at mote park.
any food bedding etc will still go mainly to ireland but money alreay raised from xmas and other means and from any show will go to large breed rescue

s143 edited to say maidstone not maiden head s73
